Eastlake Football Club has today announced the appointment of Shaun Young as Football General Manager.

Young was previously employed as General Manager of AFL Tasmania since 2010 but will make the move to the nation’s capital to lead the Demons into a new era.

Young will be responsible for guiding all levels of the club from juniors through to the newly formed Canberra Demons NEAFL team.

With only one team from the ACT in the NEAFL competition, Young said he is looking forward to the challenge of growing football in the region.

“I am really excited by the opportunity and the challenge that lies ahead,” Young said.

“Now there is one NEAFL team out of the region, it’s a really good opportunity to build a significant high performance program for the greater Canberra region for the most talented players to aspire to participate in with endeavours of making it into the national system.

“Some of the things we want to achieve along the journey is to firstly build an adequate and professional program to make sure, for every talented aspiring player who comes in, it’s sufficient enough for their football aspirations.

“It’s also about building strong relationships with key stakeholders in the greater Canberra region to ensure we are providing that opportunity and pathway.”

Eastlake FC President, Lorin Joyce, said Young’s experience will hold the club in good stead for an exciting future.

“Eastlake Football Club would like to welcome Shaun Young to the new role as Football General Manager,” Joyce said.

“The club believes Shaun’s time with AFL Tasmania will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role.

“It is a very exciting time for the club with the launch of the Canberra Demons, and now securing the highly credible services of Shaun will hold the club in good stead for the future.

“In the role of Football General Manager, Shaun will be responsible for creating and delivering a high performance culture at all levels, from the Eastlake juniors, senior AFL Canberra competition, right through to the newly launched Canberra Demons NEAFL team.”
